Extremadura has not been really discovered by foreign tourists still today.
The World Heritage sites Merida, Caceres and Guadalupe, the impressive history and the lush nature are worth being visited.

A gift from the Gods.
The ancient Roman world in Extremadura
Visiting Extremadura is like making a trip through history, for within and around Merida, in the whole region you will still be able to find vibrant remnants of past times: the good old Roman Time. The building of the Roman Theatre in Merida stands straight as if it has been recently constructed by the legionnaires, and nobody can say for sure how old the majestic Roman Bridge over the Guadiana is. Why are the monuments so well preserved' No one but the Gods knows the answer.

Do you know a better place to visit'
Caceres has applied to be Europe’s Capital of Culture.
To Cáceres, culture is more than classical music, painting and literature. Its precious cultural treasures include feta cheese from Extremadura and processions in honour of the Virgin Mother. This is the culture that Cáceres 2016 is going to show off to its guests from across the whole of Europe and wants them to experience when it for sure will be nominated to become Europe’s Capital of Culture.

Wandering through the Passage of Life.
The last Way of Emperor Charles V
The Emperor Charles V way can be reached through the valleys and mountains in northern Extremadura. After resigning, the emperor spent his retirement there. The last way of the emperor has been enlarged and is today a hiking trail. And unlike Charles V, wanderers can turn around and go back the same way.

The Holy Place of Guadalupe.
The Monastery of Guadalupe and the Miraculous Image of the Virgin Mary.
Tens of thousands of religious people from all over the world make a pilgrimage each year to the Blessed Virgin of Guadalupe. The monastery is today the most important pilgrimage site for Spanish and Latin-American Catholics. However, the central personage of the World Heritage Site Guadalupe is a poor shepherd from Caceres.

Slowing down one’s Life.
The Felicity of Pilgrimage on the Silver Way through Extremadura.
Different signs can make you recognise pilgrims on the Via de la Plata. Firstly, most of them wear a scallop; secondly, they are suntanned, indeed more than the Extremeños. Thirdly, they always look a little bit exhausted. But above all they take much time for everything: for eating, visiting, conversing and relaxing.

The vultures of Salto del Gitano.
Natural and National Parks in Extremadura
Parks in Cornalvo and Monfragüe are suitable places for the production of fairytale and adventure movies. When the director of photography looks through the lens, he sees a slightly curved countryside unrolling before his eyes. A continuous cheep and twitter are audible from meadows and treetops. And griffon vultures are flying through the air.

Flying through the air:
Ornithology in Extremadura
In Extremadura ornithologists do not have to wait a long time, they just need to keep their eyes open. White storks nest on towers and house tops all over the country. Griffon vultures fly directly over people’s heads, and rare great bustards parade through the meadows.

Facing the enemies.
Castle complexes in Extremadura.
In the Middle Ages princes let erected castles in the lowland. So did the lords of castles in Alcocer too. From there they could keep invaders and their subjects under surveillance. They later moved to cities with their fortresses, because it was more secure there in the long-term.
