Wit a surface area of Switzerland and one million inhabitants living mostly in major cities, Extremadura shelters an impressive fauna and flora.

The vultures of Salto del Gitano.
Natural and National Parks in Extremadura
Parks in Cornalvo and Monfragüe are suitable places for the production of fairytale and adventure movies. When the director of photography looks through the lens, he sees a slightly curved countryside unrolling before his eyes. A continuous cheep and twitter are audible from meadows and treetops. And griffon vultures are flying through the air.

Over Hill and Dale.
Hiking and Cycling in Extremadura
A region as large as Switzerland is a suitable place for hiking and cycling. Nature-lovers do not have to drive far in order to reach the green area and will not be bothered by heavy traffic. For sure they will be spoilt for choice: Extremadura has indeed so many different hiking and cycling trails that it will be difficult to opt for one.

Pork deluxe.
The Iberian Pork of Extremadura
The best ham in the world, the Pata Negra, comes from the Iberian Pork. Although they are very precious, the small black pigs are not barricaded in buildings as livestock and shepherded all day, but rather live carefree and pasture in holm oak forests – and of course eat acorns that give them that unique savour.

Canoeing in the town.
Rivers, Extremadura’s living arms.
Extremadura has more artificial channels than any other region in Spain. The Lakeland area of Zona de los Lagos is one of the most beautiful regions in the country. The Guadiana River offers the fantastic opportunity to go canoeing. Enthusiasts of this sport can enjoy it upon request in Badajoz.

More than a word.
Sustainability and sustainable policy in Extremadura
Sustainability is one of those words one is fed up of hearing. The word sustainable is used for almost every single situation and in any context: we call sustainable crisis meetings of political parties as well as team talks between a football coach and his team – even cheap washing powders are sustainable. However, in Extremadura the word has developed a new meaning, a practicable one, thanks to its government.

The same sun is shining over all of us.
The odd fate of the small village Granadilla.
Granadilla is for sure the most peculiar village in Extremadura. In fact, although Granadilla still has small streets and houses, a Plaza Mayor and a sundial at the city hall, the village has not existed since 1965. In that year the nearby Gabriel y Galan Lake flooded the village, but nonetheless the sun still shines over Granadilla and its frequently changing residents.

On the Fishing Path.
Angling in Extremadura
Fishes are now feeling at home in the artificial lakes of the Serena and Siberia in eastern Extremadura. Carps weighing up to 30 kilogrammes and barbells of 15 kilogrammes for example are living in these waters. If you do not understand why this is, just come and see.

Blossomy Treasures.
Orchids in Extremadura.
Their names sound like something from an old fairytale book. They are called champagne orchid, green-flowered tongue orchid and violet limodore. These names illuminate the eyes of orchid hunters. They can be found most of the time on glossy paper in books by the wayside in Extremadura.

Straightforward across the steppe.
Motorbiking in Extremadura

Palaces and pilgrim hostels.
Accommodation facilities in Extremadura.
It is common knowledge that it is hard to find appropriate accommodation for the holidays, and unfortunately in this regard Extremadura is not an exception. Isn’t it a torture to have to decide between Guadalupe, a small mountain village located near a World Heritage Site, the valley of cherries or a hotel in the immediate vicinity of a dreamy lake'
